2009 board candidate slate

This year’s nominating committee interviewed 13 applicants for board candidacy and was in deliberations at press time for the January 2009 Sound Consumer. Look for an announcement of the 2009 slate of candidates in the February Sound Consumer. We’ll post candidate bios and photos on the Web site by March 25, including video interviews.

Board meeting reports

November 25 report
The November 25 board meeting agenda included review of the 2009 operating budget and business plan, an evaluation of the fall member meeting, a report on PCC's new social networking initiatives and a decision on the 2009 annual meeting and election dates.

"We were thrilled to have another record attendance with nearly 350 members and guests," notes Member Relations Committee chair Kelly Horton. The feedback from members indicated that they enjoyed the meal, the conversations and the special magic presentation. See a full meeting report, a photo slide show and soundslide show here on the member meetings Web page.

The board heard a report from the marketing department on PCC's recent foray into the social networking realm, sharing details of our new presence on Facebook and Twitter. Director of Marketing Laurie Albrecht reported that these kinds of interactions make more people aware of PCC and our mission, and help create new communities of people who share our values. It's also another way we can hear from our shoppers about things we're doing that they're happy about as well as any concerns they may have.

The board approved April 28 as the date of the 2009 annual meeting, with the election beginning that date and running through May 22. The 2009 ballot count meeting was set for May 25.

Upcoming Talk to the Board opportunities

The board members have decided to continue their monthly member outreach. Kelly Horton, member relations committee chair, observes, “This program gives the trustees a chance to meet members, staff and shoppers in a comfortable, informal setting. The practice of posting a question for each visit helps us get feedback from members on a topic of ongoing board discussion.”

The board will still be gathering feedback on how PCC practices social responsibility into 2009. They are looking for feedback on:

How important is it that PCC practice social responsibility? And, what does a socially responsible business look like to you?

They look forward to talking to you about this and any other topic you may have in mind. Please stop by one of these store visits. You may also e-mail the board directly at or write us at the co-op office location.
